Sound Properties

Sound?

In music theory, Sound means any noise our ear can hear or perceive. Although in the study of physics there are many definitions of the term "sound", in music theory we will understand it as a single noise that can be defined as a musical note.

Each sound has properties that can be defined as: Pitch, Dynamics, Duration and Timbre.

Sound Properties

Pitch: is the quality that defines which sounds are more higher (Treble) or lower (Bass). This can be set to Bass, Middle and Treble according to the frequency of the sound (which is defined in Hertz, I recommend studying Physics for anyone who wants to delve into the subject)

Dynamics: or amplitude, determines how strong or weak the sound is. Its value can be measured in physics in decibels (dB)

Duration:  means how short or long the sound can be. This interferes directly with tempo and rhythm.

Timbre: is the unique characteristic of sound. Through the timbre we can be able to differentiate two sounds of exactly the same pitch .We can notice the difference between two different instruments or voices of two people. We can call it Tone Color
